MA (Hons) LLB - Associate
Dan studied law at Waikato University and began his career with Swarbrick Dixon in Hamilton, specialising in local government and regional body work. He then developed as a corporate lawyer working at Quigg Partners in Wellington. The next move was to London and a small private practice specialising in corporate insolvency and restructuring. After three years, whilst still in London, Dan moved on to working in the mining sector as an in-house counsel for Australian mining entrepreneurs on the acquisition, promotion, financing and sale of mining and oil and gas ventures across the globe, but with a particular focus on Africa. He relocated back to New Zealand at the end of 2011 and continued to do this work from Leigh for two years.
Dan handles a wide range of corporate and commercial legal matters, including commercial contract negotiation and drafting, finance, joint ventures and shareholder agreements, corporate structuring, insolvency and restructuring. Dan is also developing a property practice and handles commercial leases and property transactions. Dan advises our property clients about the Overseas Investment Act. If you are not a NZ, AUS or Singaporean citizen or do not hold a resident class visa, then Dan will need to advise you about your property purchase in NZ.
With a background Maori studies, and a keen appreciation of environmental issues, Dan also hopes to bridge gaps in New Zealand’s mining sector, potentially a very valuable part of Northland's future economy.
Dan is client focussed, prioritises commercial solutions and is an able legal strategist who is used to learning on the hoof for clients with varied business interests across many jurisdictions. Dan is a senior lawyer who can help you navigate a myriad of legal obstacles.
Dan and his family are looking forward to settling down on their 22 hectare lifestyle farm at Parua Bay and enjoying Northland’s beaches. In years gone by, Dan was a rower and he hopes to put the oar in the water again with his old pair partner who is also in Whangarei. Dan is also a keen (but would not say skilled) surfer. Having grown up in the South Island High County, Dan maintains an interest in agriculture and has joined the WRMK Rural focus group.
Dan joined WRMK in January 2014. Dan believes in the mantra ‘buy local’, including legal services for Northland based organisations.
