BA, LLB | Team Leader - Director
Born and raised in South Otago, Neil graduated from the University of Otago in Dunedin in 1975 with a law degree and an arts degree majoring in history.
Neil’s specialty interests are in trusts and related areas. He is a Registered Trust and Estate Practitioner (TEP) through his membership of STEP. Neil is one of the managing directors of WRMK Lawyers.
The use of trusts for inheritance purposes has widened the scope of estate planning and trusts in general with the change of focus in society from the nuclear family of a generation or more ago to melded family combinations. The changes to the Property Relationships Act to encompass de facto and same sex relationships add complex dimensions to these issues.
Neil acts for a wide number of mainly self employed people in the farming and business sectors where succession planning for the transfer of assets from one generation to the next is often a key objective. He is instrumental in overseeing the firm’s extensive trust administration division which involves more than 1,000 trusts.
Neil is Honorary Solicitor to a number of organisations.
On a personal note, Neil is married to Mary who is a practising dietician. They have four surviving children and several grandchildren who keep them on their toes.
